|Public Library – May 5, 1925
The West LaFayette Public Library Board met in regular session with the following members present: J. B. Cunningham, Mrs. E. O. Price, Mrs. Arthur McQueen, E. B. Vawter, and F. A. Burtsfield.
The secretary's report was read and approved.
The following bills and salaries were allowed and ordered paid:
Total – 731.86
The Librarian's regular monthly and yearly reports were received and ordered filed.
Following is a report of the Contingent Fund:
Balance Apr. 7, 1925 – 2.11
Fines during month of Apr. - 8.28
Expenses during month of Apr. - 7.86
Balance May 5, 1925 – 2.53
The Committee on Building & Grounds reported that it had had a meeting with the City Council and that the property new occupied by the Library could be purchased at a figure within the reach of the Library Board. After a thorough canvass of the situation, the following resolution was presented and adopted:
Whereas, the common council of the City of West LaFayette has had appraisement made of the Buildings & Grounds at present used for the City Hall and the Public Library, and that said premises are appraised at $1500.00 and the city offers said premises for sale at private-sale for not less than the appraised for value thereof, to be $500.00 cash in hand and $1000.00 to be paid July 1, 1925; Therefore,
Be it resolved that the West LaFayette Public Library purchase said real estate at and for the price of $1500.00 and one the above stated; that a warrant be drawn on this date for $500.00, and for $1000.00 payable July 1, 1926, and the city treasurer be directed to make such payments accordingly from the library funds, and that a proper deed shall be executed by the Civil City conveying said premises to the West LaFayette Public Library.
The Librarian gave a report of her attendance at the District Library meeting held at Monticello.
Miss [?] of the Public Library Commission was present and recommended that the books of the Library be cataloged according to the Dewey decimal system. In order to do this it was recommended that a typewriter be secured on which to make out the necessary cards. Accordingly a committee composed of Pres. Cunningham and Mr. Burtsfield was appointed to investigate the best machines for this purpose and to secure prices, and to make recommendations to the Board at the regular June meeting.
There being no further business to transact, the Board adjourned.
