Set in fourth century Roman Egypt, Agora (2009) examines the social unrest incited between religious and political factions as the city Alexandria teeters on the brink of violent revolution. Caught between these warring factions is the
scientist-philosopher Hypatia (Academy Award Winner Rachel Weisz) who becomes increasingly isolated as she strives to save the library of Alexandria and preserve the knowledge of classical antiquity.
Agora will be presented by WALLA on Monday, March 12 at 6:45 pm in honor of Women’s History Month. (127 minutes; R)
