Please join us at the 2016 “Thank You Reception” for West Lafayette Public Library Foundation donors.

We’ll hear about the Foundation’s work from President Nancy Dunn, learn about the Library’s development and activities over the past year from Library Director Nick Schenkel and enjoy refreshments and the opportunity to talk with other Library donors.

Our annual brainstorming of wishes and ideas to make our Library even better will cap off our evening.

Cultivating a community of readers while expanding our community's love for reading and strengthening our Library is what our Library Foundation does so well – thanks to YOUR ongoing support.

 

Mission Statement

"The purpose for which the Foundation is organized is to promote, aid and encourage library purposes, activities and endeavors of every kind and description for the West Lafayette Public Library."

 

How to get involved

  • Donate your money, your books, your time
  • Donations can be made to the Foundation in memory of loved ones
  • Donations can be made to the Foundation in honor of treasured members of family, friends, community
  • Donations can be made to the Foundation for the annual fund which supports Library collection building and programs through matching grant and special requests
  • Donations to the Foundation can be earmarked to one our special project funds: children and youth, music and the arts, outreach services, Periodicals/magazines

 

Current, past & future projects

  • Artist in Residence, June 2015 programs
  • Funding for cooperative programs with WL Parks and Recreation (little free libraries & book drops in the parks, help with funding Family Fun Day)
  • Funding for Outreach services including senior/retirement community library services as well as pre-school visits and outreach services offered in cooperation with WLCS's "Gear Up for Success" program
  • Funding to help the Library as an active member of Evergreen Indiana, a consortium of over 100 public libraries sharing books, music and ideas

It’s quick and easy to obtain an Evergreen Indiana Library card with the West Lafayette Public Library.

Please bring the following information with you when you come to the Library to apply for your new card:

  • A government issued picture ID with your current local address on it

OR

  • A government issued picture ID and
  • Proof of your local residence such as a:
    • Voter's registration card
    • Car registration
    • Lease or dorm contract
    • Property tax statement
    • Utility bill (telephone, gas, electric, water, etc.) issued within the last 60 days
    • Bank statement issued within the last 60 days

The Library is located on the corner of Chauncey and Columbia Street in Chauncey Village in downtown West Lafayette. For your convenience there is a parking garage on Columbia Street, across from the Library.

The Library has book drops where you can return books and other checked out items 24/7:

  • WALK-UP on the East side of the Library building (on Chauncey Street)
  • NEW: WALK-UP at Lincoln Park on Lincoln Street, just East of Robinson and Salisbury Streets*
  • NEW: WALK-UP at Lommel Park at the Wilshire Street entrance, near the corner of Wilshire and Sparta Streets*
  • DRIVE-UP in front of the Payless Supermarket on West Sagamore Parkway
  • DRIVE-UP outside the Kurz Purdue Technology Center building in Research Park (Monday - Friday pick-up)

You can return any materials at any of these three locations any time of the day or night.

 

The West Lafayette Library is working with West Lafayette Parks and Recreation and with local neighborhood representatives to expand the Library’s Little Free Library network.  The West Lafayette Library currently stewards little free libraries at Lincoln and Lommel Parks. Suggestions for location are welcome.

Donations of books, music, movies, magazines, etc. are accepted any time during Library hours. Please ask, for assistance, at the information desk, in the front of the Library, when you arrive.

Other ways to support the Library are available, including monetary donations and gifts. Visit the support section of our website for more information.

 

Personal papers and other materials of local historical interest may be accepted for our archive. Click here for more information if you are interested in donating items to the WLPL Archives.

The West Lafayette Public Library strives to be our community's center for lifelong learning, the collector of our community's written and audio-visual heritage, and the gateway to resources within and beyond the Library's walls.

The West Lafayette Public Library Board of Directors and staff are committed to continue the Library's compliance with ADA standards for public library service.

As a part of that commitment, the Library has established an ADA self-assessment committee which is charged with surveying the Library building and grounds to determine areas for improvement with regard to ADA compliance.

  • Sunday 1 pm to 5 pm

*4th Thursday of each month    Noon to 8 pm

The Library is closed on the following holidays:
New Year's Day; Easter Sunday; Memorial Day; 4th of July; Labor Day; Thanksgiving; Christmas Eve; Christmas; and New Year's Eve.
